39 Best Things to do in Bali for Couples

After 36 trips to Bali, I’ve learned that there is no shortage of things to do in Bali for couples. Whether you’re planning a romantic Bali escape, honeymoon, anniversary, or just a holiday with your favourite person, these are 39 Bali experiences I’d actually recommend.

My first trip was in 1999, travelling as a teen with my family; I said I’d never go back. 😀 Since then, I visited solo, I’ve been as a honeymooner, I’ve travelled with my kids, and now that my kids are growing up, I’m finding myself going back to Bali regularly as a couple.

And let me tell you, Bali for couples is a whole different experience.

There are so many wonderful things to do together, whether you’re looking for romance, adventure, relaxation, incredible food, or simply somewhere beautiful to spend time with the person you love.

I’ve already written guides on things to do in Bali with kids and things to do in Bali with teenagers. And although I’ve done all of those things, and would do them as a couple if I had to choose. If I really had to choose this is the things I’d do in Bali as a couple.

So, without further ado, here are 39 of my favourite things to do in Bali for couples, based on my own experiences and a few that are still firmly on my Bali bucket list.

Best things to do in Bali for couples

And yes, there are ads and affiliate links on this site. They help me keep creating all this content for you for free. And trust me, some of these Bali guides take me DAYS, sometimes weeks, to research, write, and pull together.

Don’t need to book anything? No worries. Keep scrolling and enjoy the guide! But if you’re booking a hotel, tour, or experience anyway, using one of my links is a lovely little way to support what I do. It costs you absolutely nothing extra, but I may earn a small commission from the booking.

And honestly? Every booking helps me stay in the job I absolutely love: travelling, discovering the best places, and then coming home to tell YOU all about them.

1. Have a 100 Candle Lit Dinner at The Samaya Ubud

Let’s start with one of the most romantic things to do in Ubud.

I did the 100 Candle Lit Dinner at The Samaya Ubud back in 2017 with my brand-new partner at the time, and it was SO romantic.

He had booked it as a special surprise for me.

You walk into the restaurant and are taken down towards the Ayung River, where your private dining area is surrounded by candles and flower petals. The river itself is dotted with candles, creating this incredibly magical atmosphere.

Oh my gosh.

It is genuinely one of the most romantic things you can do in Ubud.

The experience currently includes a private riverside setting, romantic decorations, a multi-course degustation menu, drinks, and a professional photography session.

If you’re looking for romantic things to do in Bali for couples, this one is very hard to beat.

2. Stay in a secluded private pool villa in Ubud

A private pool villa in Ubud is always one of my favourite things to do in Bali.

I do love villas with kids as well, but there is something particularly lovely about having a secluded villa with your own private pool when you’re travelling as a couple.

You can swim whenever you want.

You can order breakfast.

You can lounge around all day.

And, yes, you can skinny dip.

It’s the ultimate romantic Bali experience.

Just be careful.

One evening we didn’t realise that our villa actually hired security guards, and yeah… it was a while before we could get back out of the pool that evening.

Let’s just say we learnt about the security arrangements very quickly.

3. Have a couples massage in Bali

Nothing says Bali quite like a massage.

And having a couples massage in Bali is even better.

I personally love it when the massage beds are positioned close enough that I can actually reach over and hold his hand occasionally.

Because, you know, apparently I need to know he’s still there.

But honestly, knowing he’s in the room actually makes me feel more relaxed.

There are incredible spas all over Bali, from Ubud to Seminyak and beyond, so a couples massage is one of those Bali couples activities that is incredibly easy to add to almost any itinerary.

4. Book a traditional Balinese flower bath

A Balinese flower bath is another gorgeous experience for couples.

You’ll find flower baths offered at many Bali villas and spas, and they can often be arranged as part of your stay.

One of my favourites was at Gda’s in Ubud.

It was absolutely beautiful and such a lovely way to be welcomed to our villa.

Imagine stepping into a bath covered in colourful flowers after travelling all the way to Bali.

Romantic? Absolutely.

Instagrammable? Also absolutely.

5. Have a floating breakfast in your private pool

What could be more romantic than waking up in Bali and sharing breakfast in your private pool?

Okay, I’m going to let you in on a little secret.

Not many people actually eat the entire breakfast in the pool.

It’s more of an Instagram moment.

But I’m not complaining because it makes for some pretty amazing couple photos.

If you’re looking for romantic Bali experiences that also give you those gorgeous holiday photos, a floating breakfast is hard to resist.

6. Take a private sunset cruise together

A private sunset cruise is another beautiful experience for couples in Bali.

You can arrange private charters from areas including Benoa, Serangan and Sanur, with options ranging from shorter sunset cocktail cruises to longer sunset dinner cruises.

For couples, I’d look for a private sunset cruise rather than a large shared cruise if romance is the priority.

There is something pretty special about being out on the water with just your partner, a drink in hand, watching the sun disappear.

And if you want to make it extra special, look at private phinisi or yacht charters where you can customise the experience with food, drinks and decorations.

7. Watch a Bali sunset together

You don’t need to spend a fortune to enjoy one of the most romantic things to do in Bali.

Sometimes you just need a good sunset.

Some of my favourite Bali sunsets have been at the W in Seminyak, which was absolutely stunning.

And more recently, we watched the sunset from ARNA on Nusa Ceningan, overlooking the cliffs.

Wow.

That was one of those moments where you just sit there with a cocktail in your hand and think, this is why we travel.

Make sure you put at least one Bali sunset on your couples itinerary.

8. Go ATV riding through the Gorilla Face Cave

If you’re an adventure couple like us, you’re going to love this one.

ATV riding through the Gorilla Face Cave is so much fun.

There can be some seriously steep sections.

It can get muddy.

And you will probably get dirty.

But that’s part of the fun.

I love combining an ATV experience with something else afterwards, such as a waterfall tour, canyon tubing or white-water rafting.

That way you can get properly cleaned up afterwards!

9. Go canyon tubing

Canyon tubing is always a favourite of ours.

We’ve actually done this activity several times, both with the kids and without them.

You basically hop into a tube and float your way through the river and jungle around Ubud.

It’s fun, it’s refreshing, and it’s a great activity if you’re looking for something a little different from the usual Bali sightseeing.

It’s also a great option for couples who want an adventure without needing to be hardcore adrenaline junkies.

10. Go white-water rafting

White-water rafting in Bali is another great couples adventure.

And honestly, you don’t need to be an experienced rafter.

We’ve done it with young kids, and we’ve done it by ourselves as a couple.

There are a lot of stairs involved, which can be quite the adventure in itself, but once you’re on the river, it’s a really fun experience.

If you’re looking for adventurous things to do in Bali for couples, put this one on your list.

Best things to do in Bali for couples - white water rafting

11. Ride the Couple Swing at Alas Harum

You’ve seen the Bali swings all over Instagram.

But have you seen the Couple Swing at Alas Harum?

The official attraction is currently listed at around 20 metres above the ground, with a combined weight limit for two people.

I’ve done the swing. My partner, however, was not particularly interested. He’s not a fan of heights.

But if you can convince your partner to get on it with you, the Couple Swing makes for some seriously romantic Bali photos.

And if your partner is less interested in the swing, there are other couple experiences at Alas Harum, including the Couple Sky Bike.

12. Walk the Campuhan Ridge Walk in Ubud

Get up early one morning and head out for the Campuhan Ridge Walk in Ubud.

The views are beautiful, and it’s a lovely way to start the day together.

Walk hand in hand, take in the scenery, and then make your way to a cafe for breakfast or coffee.

It’s simple.

It’s free.

And sometimes those are the best Bali date ideas of all.

13. Explore Bali’s rice terraces

Bali’s rice terraces are absolutely beautiful and make a wonderful couples activity.

One of the most famous is Tegallalang Rice Terrace near Ubud, but it’s not the only option.

You can also explore the spectacular Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, which are UNESCO-listed, or head towards Sidemen, where you’ll find beautiful rural landscapes and rice fields without quite the same level of tourism.

This is one of those experiences where you don’t necessarily need an itinerary.

Just walk around together, take in the scenery, and enjoy the culture and landscape of Bali.

Best things to do in Bali for couples - rice terraces

14. Take a day trip to Nusa Lembongan

Nusa Lembongan is our new favourite.

It’s easy to reach from Bali, and once you’re there, getting around by scooter is part of the fun.

Most people drive pretty slowly, so you can take your time and explore.

We loved visiting the cafes on the beach.

We loved the floating bars sitting out over the ocean.

Even the public pool bars right on the beach are a lot of fun.

If you’re looking for a relaxed island escape from Bali, a day trip to Nusa Lembongan is a great couples activity.

15. Stay overnight and go glamping at ARNA

Actually, forget the day trip.

Stay overnight.

ARNA Suites and Ocean Lounge is technically on Nusa Ceningan, the little island connected to Nusa Lembongan by the Yellow Bridge. You can reach it by travelling from Sanur to Nusa Lembongan and then crossing to Ceningan.

We loved glamping at ARNA and having sunset cocktails overlooking the cliffs.

The location is spectacular, with the famous Blue Lagoon below you.

And this isn’t basic camping.

ARNA combines the experience of glamping with proper luxury, including beautiful suites, a pool, a bar, and incredible ocean views.

It is incredibly romantic and one of those Bali experiences that feels genuinely special.

16. Stay at Samanvaya in Sidemen

If you’re looking for somewhere that feels a little more peaceful and secluded, head to Sidemen.

Samanvaya Sidemen is an adults-only retreat in the Sidemen Valley, surrounded by rice fields, greenery and traditional village life.

It feels like a very different side of Bali.

Think lush landscapes, tranquillity, beautiful accommodation and that feeling of escaping the crowds.

I absolutely loved staying here.

For couples wanting somewhere romantic, peaceful and a little different from the classic Bali hotspots, Sidemen is one to watch.

17. Spend the day at Azul Beach Club

If you need to get out of your hotel for the day, Azul Beach Club is a great option.

It’s also conveniently located if you’re heading towards the airport afterwards.

The pool overlooks the beach.

There’s great food.

There are great drinks.

And it’s a beautiful place to spend a few hours together before heading home.

Sometimes a couple’s holiday needs a day where you don’t have to do anything other than sit by the pool, swim, eat and drink.

This is that day.

@explorewitherinChecked out of the hotel but not ready to leave Bali yet? This is where you go. 🌴 We spent the day at @azulbeachclub and honestly it went so fast. Loved every single minute. The drinks were great value, the food was next level, and the whole vibe just felt relaxed and fun. If you’ve got one free day in Legian, this is the place to spend it. No rushing, no stress, just beach views, good food, and sunshine all day ☀️ Also, did I mention it’s a giant treehouse sitting right on the beach? 🌊🌴 Save this for your next Bali trip. You’ll thank me later.♬ original sound – Explore with Erin

18. See the Devdan Show in Nusa Dua

If you’re staying down around Nusa Dua, why not go and see a show together?

The Devdan Show is a spectacular theatrical production celebrating Indonesian culture through dance, acrobatics, music, costumes, and special effects.

It’s a great option for a date night when you want something different from dinner and drinks.

19. Take a Balinese cooking class together

Look, my partner is not that great at cooking.

But I love it.

So if you want to do something for your woman, take a Balinese cooking class together.

You get to learn how to make the food and then, most importantly, eat the meal afterwards.

It’s a fun way to spend a few hours together, and you actually come away with something you can recreate at home.

I especially loved the cooking class I did at Four Points. It was held on the rooftop near the pool, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The hotel’s Balinese cooking class has previously been held at its rooftop venue and included hands-on preparation followed by eating the dishes you made.

20. Do Something Different on a Night Out

Not every Bali date night needs to involve a romantic dinner. If you’re looking for unique things to do in Bali for couples, try something a little weird and wonderful instead.

Ubud has plenty of bachata nights where you can dance together under the stars, and you don’t necessarily need to be an expert. But if dancing isn’t your thing, head to somewhere completely different like The Iron Fairies in Seminyak, a fantastical underground-mine-inspired bar filled with iron, timber, quirky details, live music and DJs.

Or go full Frankenstein at Frankenstein’s Laboratory for cocktails, cabaret and a very different kind of Bali night out. Sometimes the most memorable Bali couples activities are the ones you wouldn’t normally do at home.

21. Climb Mount Batur for sunrise

If you’re an adventurous couple, get up ridiculously early and climb Mount Batur for sunrise.

I would recommend doing this as an organised tour, particularly if you’re unfamiliar with the route.

It is an early start, and it is definitely a physical activity, but reaching the top and watching the sun come up over Bali is an experience you’ll remember.

It is one of those classic Bali experiences that most adventurous couples will want to tick off.

22. Visit Lempuyang Temple and the famous Gates of Heaven

You’ve probably seen the photos.

The famous Gates of Heaven at Lempuyang Temple have become one of Bali’s most recognisable Instagram spots.

And yes, they are absolutely beautiful.

For couples, it’s a great opportunity to get some photos together, particularly if you dress up in traditional Balinese clothing.

Just remember that this is a religious site, not simply a photo backdrop, so dress and behave respectfully.

23. Experience a Balinese purification ceremony

This one is still on my list.

I haven’t personally done a Balinese purification ceremony yet, but I wanted to include it because it is a fascinating cultural experience to consider as a couple.

The ceremony is known as Melukat, a traditional Balinese Hindu purification ritual involving holy water. It is intended as a spiritual cleansing and is associated with releasing negative influences and restoring balance.

Melukat can take place at sacred springs, temples, rivers, and other spiritually significant locations. Tirta Empul is one of the best-known places where visitors can experience the ritual.

This is one I would approach respectfully.

It isn’t simply a wellness treatment or another Instagram experience. It is a genuine spiritual practice within Balinese Hinduism.

24. Go snorkelling together

My partner isn’t a huge water person.

But he doesn’t mind sitting on the boat while I get in and go snorkelling.

Then I get back on the boat and tell him all about the turtles I’ve seen and whatever else I’ve discovered under the water.

So yes, couples don’t have to do absolutely everything together!

Bali has some fantastic snorkelling opportunities, particularly around the Nusa Islands and other coastal areas.

If one of you isn’t keen on getting in the water, you can still enjoy the boat trip together.

Best things to do in Bali for couples - snorkelling

25. Go scuba diving

If you are both into diving, Bali is an amazing place to explore underwater.

There are reefs, marine life, and some famous wreck sites, including the USAT Liberty wreck at Tulamben.

This is one of those experiences where you’re not just sitting beside each other doing something.

You’re exploring another world together.

And then you can spend the rest of the day talking about what you saw.

26. Take a day trip to Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida is absolutely gorgeous.

The island itself can be a little touristy, but if you’re going for a day trip to see the cliffs and take some photos, it is spectacular.

And yes, you’ll want a great tour guide.

We got some of our best photos because our guide knew exactly where to take us and, more importantly, where to stand to get the shot.

That matters in Nusa Penida.

You can arrive at the viewpoint, look around and think, How on earth are we going to get a photo like that?

A good guide knows.

Best things to do in Bali for couples- nusa penida

27. Hire a private driver and explore Bali for the day

This is one of my favourite ways to experience Bali.

Hire a great private driver and explore at your own pace instead of joining a set tour.

Want to stop for coffee?

Stop.

See a beautiful temple?

Pull over.

Want to stay longer somewhere?

You can.

Want to change the entire itinerary halfway through the day?

You can do that too.

I’ve done this so many times in Bali.

And if you need the details of my driver, leave me a comment, and I’m happy to send them to you.

28. Chase waterfalls around Bali

There are so many waterfalls to discover around Bali.

One of my favourites is Tegenungan Waterfall.

There is a beautiful heart-shaped photo opportunity, bird’s nests, and, of course, the waterfall itself where you can go swimming.

It makes for a really fun and romantic day out.

And I love that you can combine waterfall hunting with other Ubud activities, making it easy to turn it into a full day.

Another great waterfall to check out: Lemukih Falls: A Guide To Bali’s Secret Natural Water Slide.

29. Explore Bali by scooter

There is not much better than sitting behind your partner on a scooter, arms around their waist, flying through Bali.

The wind in your hair.

The tropical scenery.

The little roads.

Stopping whenever you feel like it.

I love it.

Obviously, only ride a scooter if you’re properly licensed, experienced, and comfortable doing so, and always wear a helmet. My tips for driving in Bali here.

But if you’re confident on two wheels, exploring Bali by scooter is one of the great freedoms of travelling around the island.

Best things to do in Bali for couples - scooter

30. Go horseback riding on the beach

If horseback riding is your thing, you’ve got to do it.

Riding along a Bali beach together is pretty romantic.

It’s also a completely different way to experience the coastline.

You get the beach, the horses, the ocean, and hopefully a spectacular sunset.

What’s not to love?

31. Watch the Kecak Fire Dance at Uluwatu

The Kecak Fire Dance at Uluwatu Temple is one of those Bali experiences you really should see at least once.

The performance takes place against one of the most spectacular settings on the island.

Add in the ocean views, sunset, and dramatic fire performance, and you’ve got a pretty memorable date night.

Have a drink, explore the cliffs, and then settle in for the show.

32. Have a seafood dinner on Jimbaran Beach

Jimbaran Beach is lined with seafood restaurants, making it a classic choice for a romantic Bali dinner.

My tip?

Get there early enough to grab one of the beanbags or beachside seats, watch the sunset, and then settle in for seafood.

Feet in the sand.

Ocean in front of you.

Sunset above you.

Dinner arriving at the table.

Yep.

That’s Bali.

33. Take a private photography session together

This one is particularly useful if your partner isn’t exactly the world’s greatest photographer.

You know what I mean.

You spend ages getting dressed.

You find the perfect location.

You look amazing.

And then your partner takes a photo where your head is cut off.

Problem solved.

Book a private photography session together, and you’ll come home with genuinely beautiful photos of the two of you.

It’s romantic, it’s fun, and it’s actually useful.

34. Have a private spa day for two

We’ve already talked about couples massages, but a whole spa day is a completely different experience.

We did a kind of half-day spa experience where we had head massages, regular massages, sauna time, and plenty of time to simply relax.

And honestly?

It’s a lovely way to spend time together without having to do anything.

No sightseeing.

No rushing.

No checking the itinerary.

Just relaxing in each other’s presence.

Sometimes that’s exactly what a couples holiday needs.

Best things to do in Bali for couples

35. Go cycling through the Balinese countryside

I did this as part of a tour and really recommend it.

You get to cycle through beautiful Balinese villages and see a side of Bali that you can easily miss when you’re travelling between the major tourist areas.

It’s active without being extreme.

It’s cultural without feeling like you’re sitting through a lecture.

And it’s a great way to spend a few hours doing something together.

36. Take a private yacht or boat trip

I haven’t actually done a private yacht or boat trip in Bali yet, so this one is still on my list.

But if you’re looking for a bigger couples experience on the water, this is where I’d take it beyond the sunset cruise.

You can charter a private boat or yacht for a longer experience, potentially including swimming, snorkelling, cruising the coastline, food and drinks.

For couples celebrating an anniversary, birthday, honeymoon or simply wanting to splurge, a private charter could turn into an entire day rather than just a sunset experience. Current private charters around Bali offer everything from shorter coastal cruises to longer customised experiences.

37. Try couples yoga

Yes, couples yoga is a thing.

And there are plenty of opportunities to do yoga together in Bali.

Whether you want a traditional couples yoga class, something a little more unusual like yoga with goats or puppies, or something more intimate, there are plenty of options.

My favourite yoga spot is The Yoga Barn in Ubud.

And if you’re really looking for something particularly couple-ish, you could even look into tantric yoga.

Just make sure you know what you’re signing up for!

38. Take a helicopter flight over Bali

Want to take your Bali date to another level?

Literally?

Take a helicopter flight over Bali.

There is something pretty incredible about seeing the island from above.

Rice terraces.

Volcanoes.

Beaches.

Cliffs.

Jungle.

And suddenly you realise just how spectacular Bali actually is.

It’s certainly not the cheapest Bali couples activity, but if you’re celebrating something special, it would make one hell of a memory.

39. Explore the cliffs and beaches of Uluwatu

And finally, make sure you spend some time exploring Uluwatu’s cliffs and beaches.

It is one of my favourite parts of Bali.

The dramatic cliffs.

The turquoise water.

The hidden beaches.

The beach clubs.

The sunsets.

It’s incredibly romantic.

You can spend the day exploring, find somewhere for lunch, head down to one of the beaches, and then finish with sunset drinks.

And if you want to turn it into an overnight stay, there are some absolutely gorgeous romantic hotels and villas around Uluwatu.

Best things to do in Bali for couples -Ceninigan

So, what are the best things to do in Bali for couples?

After 36 trips to Bali, I’ve learned that there isn’t one perfect Bali itinerary for couples.

Maybe you’re the couple who wants a private villa, massages, flower baths, and candlelit dinners.

Maybe you’re the couple who wants to go rafting, ride ATVs, climb a volcano, and fly over the island in a helicopter.

Maybe you want to sit on a beach with cocktails all day.

Or maybe, like us, you want to do a little bit of everything.

That’s what I love about Bali.

You can make it whatever kind of couples holiday you want.

Romantic.

Adventurous.

Relaxing.

Cultural.

Food-focused.

Or a little bit ridiculous.

And after visiting 36 times, I’m still finding new reasons to go back.

Because apparently, I haven’t quite finished with Bali yet.

Where to Stay in Bali for Couples

Choosing where to stay in Bali for couples really depends on what kind of holiday you want. Bali is not one-size-fits-all, so whether you want jungle romance, quiet luxury, beach clubs, or dramatic ocean views, these are the areas I’d consider.

Ubud for Jungle, Culture and Romance

If you’re looking for romantic places to stay in Bali surrounded by jungle, rice fields, and Balinese culture, Ubud is hard to beat. Think private pool villas, couples massages, beautiful restaurants, yoga, waterfalls, and slow mornings surrounded by greenery.

Best for: Jungle romance, culture, wellness, and private villas.

Sidemen for Quiet Luxury and Rice Fields

For couples who want to escape the crowds, Sidemen is one of my favourite places to stay in Bali. Surrounded by rice fields and mountains, it has that peaceful, traditional Bali feeling and is perfect for a romantic getaway where you can slow down and enjoy each other’s company.

Best for: Quiet luxury, rice fields, romance and getting away from it all.

Choose Samanvaya For Your Next Adults Only Bali Getaway

Bali for couples - Sideman

Seminyak for Restaurants, Beach Clubs and Nightlife

Seminyak is a great choice for couples who like a little more action. You’ll have plenty of restaurants, shopping, beach clubs, sunset drinks and nightlife nearby, making it one of the easiest places for couples who want romance without spending their entire holiday tucked away in a villa.

Best for: Restaurants, beach clubs, shopping, sunsets and nightlife.

Uluwatu for Cliffs, Beaches and Sunsets

If dramatic ocean views are your idea of romance, look at Uluwatu. With clifftop resorts, beautiful beaches, sunset views and some seriously spectacular villas, it is a popular choice for couples and honeymooners looking for a more secluded Bali escape.

Best for: Ocean views, clifftop villas, beaches, sunsets and honeymoons.

Nusa Lembongan for Island Romance

For something a little different, head offshore to Nusa Lembongan/Ceninigan. Life is slower here, the beaches are beautiful, scooters are easy to get around on, and there are plenty of beach bars, ocean views, and romantic places to escape together.

Best for: Island life, beaches, sunsets, snorkelling and a slower pace.

For Bali honeymoon activities, I’d look beyond simply staying at a resort and include at least a few experiences you can remember together.

How many days do couples need in Bali?

I’d suggest at least 7 to 10 days if you want to experience several different parts of Bali without rushing. With more time, you can combine places such as Ubud, Sidemen, Nusa Lembongan, Seminyak and Uluwatu for a much more varied Bali itinerary for couples.

Which area of Bali is best for couples?

There isn’t one answer because each area offers a different experience. Ubud is great for culture and jungle, Seminyak for restaurants and beach clubs, Uluwatu for cliffs and sunsets, Nusa Lembongan for island life, and Sidemen for a quieter and more traditional side of Bali.
