Why Australia is the Top Destination for Water Sports Enthusiasts

Australia is a country that wows the world often. Its geography, animals, and amazing food are a wonder. Tourists like to visit because there is a lot to do in the country. There are so many dream places to visit, like the zoo, where you can check out some of their deadly animals and the cute ones.

For water sports enthusiasts, the country is a must-visit.  With its vast coastline, it lends itself easily to many different water activities. There are also world-class water sports facilities, including water sports centers and schools, which make the industry a thriving one.

Below, we will explore why Australia is the top destination for people who love water sports by highlighting four activities.

Surfing

Surfing is a popular water sport in Australia. At least 1 out of 10 people in the country surfs. It explains why so many surfing world champions have come out of the country.

So popular is surfing in Australia that a genre of music has emerged from it. It is called Australian surf rock music. This genre is a favorite amongst surfers and beachgoers in the country. It captures the spirit of beach culture and the thrill of riding waves. It emerged out of the global surf music movement but quickly developed its own distinct flavor.

This is only one example of how popular surfing is in Australia. It’s a real subculture out there, popular amongst young adults. The country has too many surfing spots to count. If you have no surfing experience, you probably want to start easy. Byron Bay in New South Wales is a great choice. It has gentle waves and many surf schools you can take lessons at. For the more experienced and adventurous, the epic waves of the Southern Ocean are just the challenge you need.

Kayaking

If you visit Australia without kayaking, you definitely need to plan another trip soon. Kayaking in Australia is a whole other experience. No matter what time of the year you visit, there is always a kayaking spot open for business.

There is the Tully River, for example. It is popular for its rapids. Both beginners and experts can go kayaking here. On a good day, you can find all sorts of people from different countries there. It’s an internationally well-known location used for several activities, including world championships.

There are other kayaking destinations in major cities like Sydney and Melbourne.

Kitesurfing

There is also the choice of kitesurfing, an extreme sport that is worth it. It is so thrilling, you’ll never forget the experience. You use a large kite to pull yourself across the ocean on a surfboard. Australia is a country with lots of wind; this and the large bodies of water make it conducive for the sport. All you have to do is find your balance on the board and let the wind and the waves give you a great ride.

Australia has so many kitesurfing destinations. No matter the city you’re in, there is surely a place to kitesurf. If you’ve never gone kitesurfing before, you can consider registering for lessons. The whole world knows about the reputation of Australia’s kitesurfing schools. They are some of the best available, with instructors who are patient enough to take you easily through the ropes. There is also a kitesurfing community eager to welcome you in with open arms.

Jetskiing

Jet skiing might look simple to someone who’s just watching: all you have to do is ride a motorcycle on water. But the jet skier knows that’s only how it appears on TV. You need to experience it yourself to see how complex it is. But it’s also so much fun, so it’s absolutely worth it. You should add it to your list of fun water activities to do in Australia.

The country’s large bodies of water make it possible for you to just keep going on your jet ski. There’s the Gold Coast, just to mention one location, which has an extensive network of canals and open waters that is just perfect for a jet skiing trip. And in South Stradbroke Island, there is the occasional pleasure of spotting local wildlife like dolphins or sea turtles while jet skiing, which will no doubt improve the experience.

But note that jet skiing is a dangerous activity, so always be sure to take safety precautions. Well-regulated jet ski hire companies will give you thorough instructions and high-quality equipment.

Australia really is a special country. The world knows it as the place to go to find the strangest animals. But more than that, its geography makes it the top destination for water sports. Its excellent water sports facilities are like the icing on the cake, taking the experience to a new level.
