Getting Your RV Ready for Winter

If you spent most of the year traveling around in your RV, then you’ll be ready to get it stored away and protected for the winter months. Spending the long summers and the beautiful springtime weather in your RV is exciting, but so is spending time in it in the winter months too.

It’s vital that you understand that you can still look after your RV during the winter months, and while you can still use it on the road, you might want to get it put away for the season. Preparing and storing your RV for winter is easy, and RV storage doesn’t have to take too much of your time.

Here are some of the basics that you may have learned over the years, but definitely something to put in place for this year.

Get the plumbing system sorted first

Winterizing your plumbing system is important for the RV. You should start by removing any inline water filters and then flush out the gray and the black holding tanks, as well as the water heaters. Flushing everything out means that you’re not going to have to deal with anything frozen.

After you drain it, you need to open up the faucets and the valves to get rid of any excess water that might be there and use a water pump to push the water out so that you can have a quick and easy process completed.

Once you’re done, add antifreeze to those systems so that it doesn’t freeze over the winter. YouTube is a great help here.

Remove the batteries and get those stored away

It’s important that you don’t leave your battery in your RV. During the winter you need to make sure that the batteries are taken out so that you can charge them completely and have them ready for the next season.

Once you’ve removed them and charged them, store them in a safe location that’s not going to be too cold or too wet. A garage, shed, or storage unit is perfect as these can be both dry and warm.

Top up your fuel and stabilize it

Topping off the fuel tank and adding a fuel stabilizer will help, but some people like to leave out the stabilizer.

You don’t want to have a topped off tank and then have all the gas evaporate, especially with the quality of it today.

Clean it out completely

You need to keep those little animals away from your RV in the winter, so you need to make sure that it’s completely clean and ready to be used for the next season.

Protecting your rig from mice is important. So have everything cleaned out so that it’s not enticing with any food scraps. And make sure to close off any gaps too.

You don’t need to find your RV packed full of animals that have eaten through the wires – so let’s avoid that!

Your RV is now ready for storage in the winter months – are you ready for the season?
