Top 10 Things to Do in Kuala Lumpur with Kids

Over the last decade, my kids and I have explored Kuala Lumpur countless times, and every trip feels like a brand-new adventure. Traveling with children changes everything – suddenly, the city transforms into a giant playground filled with laughter, learning, and memories that stick.

After so many visits, we’ve compiled their absolute favourite things to do in KL. If your time is limited, you can leave the last couple off, but these top spots always make it onto our must-visit list.

1. KidZania Kuala Lumpur – Where Little Ones Dream Big

KidZania is a miniature city where kids get to role-play a huge variety of professions – everything from doctors to chefs. It’s hands-on, educational, and endlessly entertaining. My kids could spend hours there, and honestly, so could I!

Tickets start from RM114.40 for adults and children aged 4 and above, and little ones under 2 enter for free.

 

2. Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary – Meet the Gentle Giants

With a side trip to Deerland & Chamang Waterfalls – beautiful, amazing, mostly free day! We’ve visited the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary more than once, and each time it’s a magical experience. At he Malaysia elephant sanctuary children get to learn about elephant care, attend an elephant feeding session, and even get close for some gentle interactions. The national elephant conservation centre is a great day trip from Kuala Lumpur.

Entry is free, but donations are appreciated to help the Gandah Elephant Sanctuary continue its work.

3. Berjaya Times Square Theme Park – Indoor Fun for All Ages

This indoor theme park never gets old! Over 14 rides and attractions span several floors, with a roller coaster that weaves through the shopping centre – a total thrill for the kids. Affordable family entertainment.

Tickets are RM60 for adults, RM50 for children aged 3–12, and RM22 for seniors. Children under 3 are free.

4. Petrosains, The Discovery Centre – Science Meets Fun

Petrosains is an interactive science museum where kids can touch, explore, and learn. Over the years, my kids have always loved the hands-on exhibits.

Entry starts from RM33, and it’s open daily from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

5. KLCC Park & Wading Pool – Nature in the City

KLCC Park is a favourite for our family picnics. The playground and wading pool are perfect for kids to cool off while parents can relax and admire the views of the Petronas Twin Towers.

The park is free to enter, and the wading pool is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM.

6. Batu Caves – Culture, Monkeys, and Adventure

No trip to KL is complete without Batu Caves. My kids love chasing the birds and monkeys, while I soak in the sunlight streaming through the limestone caves and the beautiful temple scenes.

Entry is free, though donations are appreciated.

7. Shopping Mall Playgrounds – Indoor Play Areas Galore

KL is full of shopping malls, and many have amazing indoor playgrounds. Some are free, while others charge a small fee. Over the years, my kids have raced through more playgrounds than I can count – perfect for burning off extra energy!

 8. Cinemas – Affordable Family Entertainment

Cinemas are always a hit with my kids. Whether it’s catching the latest animated movie or a family-friendly blockbuster, ticket prices are generally very affordable. For a special treat, some theatres offer Platinum Lounges for a more luxurious experience.

9. Genting SkyWorlds – Thrills in the Highlands

A bit of a drive from the city, Genting SkyWorlds offers rides and attractions that thrill kids and adults alike. The scenery along the way is just as memorable as the park itself.

Tickets start from RM138 for adults and RM56 for children.

10. Sunway Lagoon – A Multi-Park Adventure

Sunway Lagoon combines a water park, amusement park, and wildlife experiences all in one. Over the years, my kids have loved splashing in the pools and exploring the wildlife zones.

Tickets are RM185 for adults and RM150 for children, with children under 90cm free.

 

Where We’ve Stayed: Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Traders Hotel has always been our family favourite. Centrally located, with a rooftop pool offering stunning views of the Petronas Twin Towers, it’s perfect for exploring KL. Over the years, the kids have loved swimming while I relax and plan our next adventure.

Kuala Lumpur is a city where families can mix culture, education, and fun into every trip. These attractions have been favourites of my kids for years, and they keep coming back to the top of our itinerary every visit.
