Galway stole my heart the moment I arrived—and that’s no small feat in a country as magical as Ireland! As someone whose name, Erin, is literally a poetic nod to this emerald isle, I felt an instant connection to this vibrant city. It’s my absolute favorite spot in Ireland, and not just because I finally bought my very own Claddagh ring right here in its birthplace.
Galway has a charm that’s impossible to resist, with its lively streets, breathtaking coastline, and a spirit that makes you feel like you belong. Whether you’re here to wander, feast, or soak up the music and culture, Galway is pure magic, and I can’t wait to share all my tips with you!
Where To Stay in Galway
I had spent 3 wonderful days touring Galway on a press trip and was dying to take the family there. We had stayed in our fair share of cozy B&Bs throughout Ireland and Galway was no different, but recently I read about The Galway Rooms, and let me tell you—they’ve nailed the art of making you feel right at home.
This locally owned group has been hosting travelers since 1991, starting with the legendary Woodquay Hostel in the city and eventually branching out to the dreamy landscapes of Connemara with the Mountain & Lake View Hostel. Their latest gem is a set of super-stylish, self-check-in rooms tucked away in Galway’s West End—simple, modern, and effortlessly cool.
The West End quickly became my favorite spot in Galway. It’s like the city’s fun cousin: full of quirky Irish businesses, cozy pubs, and cafés where you can lose track of time. There’s music in the air, the Corrib River rushing nearby, and a vibe that’s both relaxed and buzzing with energy. Staying at The Galway Rooms would put you right in the middle of it all, with everything you need to soak up Galway’s magic.
Where to Eat in Galway
During my time in Galway, I ate at many places, and you can read all about them on my Irish journey, but my favourite? The Twelve. After 10 years, I still remember it. What else would you expect from the “Best Gastro Pub in Ireland”?
If you’re looking for a Michelin-starred experience in Galway, Aniar is where you want to be. This incredible restaurant takes local ingredients to new heights with its creative, modern Irish cuisine. Each dish feels like an edible work of art, and the tasting menu is a journey through the flavors of the west of Ireland. It’s an unforgettable splurge-worthy experience!
Ard Bia is in the Spanish Arch, an iconic restaurant known for its authentic food and reasonable prices.
My entree of lamb parcels was delicious and took me straight back to Israel and Turkey. It was a big serving and by the time my risotto came out, I could not even eat a bite. Then the sweet pear dessert was placed before me and I managed more than a bite, of course.
Lastly, if you want something unique, head to Kai, a restaurant that’s as much about the experience as the food. Housed in a former house, this place has a quirky, rustic vibe with mismatched plates and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Top 5 Attractions in Galway
You can read the complete list of Galway attractions I visited here, but my top 5 would have to be:
The Cliffs of Moher
An absolute bucket-list destination, the Cliffs of Moher are a short drive from Galway and offer jaw-dropping views, plus set the scene for many a movie like The Princess Bride and Harry Potter.
The Latin Quarter in Galway City
This vibrant area is the heart and soul of Galway, with its colorful streets filled with pubs, live music, and quirky shops. Perfect for wandering, grabbing a bite, or soaking up the city’s unique atmosphere.
Galway Hooker
At the Roundstone Fishing Village sits the Galway Hooker, a traditional fishing boat which was developed for the strong seas of Galway Bay.
Killary Adventure Centre
An outdoor adventure centre located in Connemara, overlooking Ireland’s only fjord. They specialise in exciting outdoor activities like fixed bungee, giant swing, laser combat, water skiing, ringo rides, zip wire, kayaking, sailing, multi-task high ropes course, rock climbing, gorge walking, windsurfing and lots more.
Kylemore Abbey
Nestled in the heart of Connemara, Kylemore Abbey is a fairytale-like castle with a fascinating history. Wander its stunning gardens, learn about its Benedictine roots, and enjoy the peaceful lakeside setting.
Galway has a way of getting under your skin, and it did just that for me the moment I arrived. With its lively streets, stunning coastline, and a vibe that makes you feel like you truly belong, it’s easy to see why it’s my favorite spot in Ireland.
From wandering the charming Latin Quarter to savoring mouthwatering dishes at places like The Twelve, and Ard Bia, every corner of Galway offers something special. Whether you’re hiking the Cliffs of Moher, exploring the Killary Adventure Centre, or simply relaxing in the West End, Galway offers endless adventures that will steal your heart, just as it did mine.
