Tenerife is an island well-known among Brits thanks to its affordable prices and year-round tropical climate. While many simply go to soak up the sun and sample some local delicacies, others wish to embark on brand-new adventures they don’t usually get the chance to partake in.
In our guide, we take a look at some of the top activities on offer during Tenerife holidays to help you build your itinerary.
Hiking
Reserved for those cooler days, hiking is one of the best activities to get to know the island on a deeper level. The variety of landscapes is sure to satisfy nature lovers, particularly those of Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak.
Other impressive hiking trails are located in Teide National Park, Anaga Rural Park, and the Teno Mountains. However, it’s important to reach out to local tourist offices before your visit to confirm the trails will be open since there has been construction work ongoing in certain areas.
Whale and dolphin watching
There’s truly nothing better than seeing animals freely enjoying their natural habitats. Fortunately, the waters surrounding Tenerife provide the ideal conditions for incredible species such as dolphins and whales to roam freely.
Try and spot all 21 different species for yourself, including the sperm whale and the bottlenose dolphin. There are plenty of boat trips and excursions hosted by professionals who know the best places to find these wonderful creatures.
Siam Park
The temperatures in Tenerife can reach as high as 30 degrees, meaning a cool dip is often needed. Siam Park combines a refreshing day out with the excitement of thrilling water slides and rides. From the Mai Thai River to the Dragon, and the Tower of Power, there are countless opportunities to get your heart racing.
If you don’t fancy getting in the water however, you can relax on Siam Beach, which features some of the whitest and brightest imported natural sand in the Canaries. Or enjoy incredible views from luxury Balinese beds in the exclusive Champagne Club.
Festivals
If you’re able to time your trip just right, you’ll be able to take part in one of Tenerife’s legendary festivals or concerts. To name but a few, you have the Virgen del Carmen festivities on July 16th, the Romería of San Augustín on 23rd August, and the Grape Harvest Festival in September.
However, if you can’t visit during these times for whatever reason, the summer in Tenerife will forever be an experience worth living.
