6 Experiences Every Seasoned Traveler Should Try At Least Once

If you want to call yourself a seasoned traveler, you need to get some experiences under your belt. But, which, exactly?

That’s what we explore in this guide. We look at the items you’ll want to check off your list if you want to join the hallowed halls of the gods of wanderlust.

Join A Local Festival

First, you’ll want to immerse yourself in a local festival. Getting up close and personal with the local culture is quite an experience, and something that, surprisingly, the majority of tourists never actually do.

Some of the most famous festivals are Diwali in India, and the Carnival in Rio. However, almost everywhere you travel outside of the West will have something on offer, no matter how small it might seem.

Hike On A Famous Trail

Another thing you should do to call yourself a seasoned traveler is hike on a famous trail. You want to go to the locations that everyone puts on Instagram, or do something that’s miles from anywhere that hardly anyone ever actually goes to (even though they want to).

For example, you could hike the Inca Trail up to Machu Picchu. You could also try the trail that leads up to Mount Denali in Alaska, although you’ll need to ensure you have a guide and all the proper trail equipment.

Go On An RV Roadtrip

Going on a long-distance RV road trip is another must-do experience as a traveler. Getting out of the city and into nature is often a joyful and fun experience, especially if you go with other people.

What’s more, there are RV resorts all over the country, so you can usually hop from one to the next. These often have facilities, like showers, hookups, and food, so you can refresh yourself after every leg on the road and enjoy what the local area has to offer. Often, there are trails, bike rides, or golf courses nearby.

Eat Street Food At Bustling Markets

You can also start calling yourself an experienced and seasoned traveler if you’ve eaten street food at bustling markets. These are found all over the world, and one of the most exciting aspects of travel. You never quite know what you’re going to find.

Bangkok has one of the most famous of these, the Chatuchak Market. However, Mexico City and Lima in Peru also have exciting options that are worth checking out.

Visit A UNESCO World Heritage Site

Visiting another UNESCO World Heritage Site is another item you’ll want to check off your seasoned traveler checklist. These include some of the most impressive locations on planet Earth, like the Petra in Jordan or the Great Walls of China.

Take A Long-Distance Train Journey

Finally, you can be like a nineteenth-century explorer by taking a long-distance train journey. The most impressive of these is the trans-Siberian, but there are plenty of others.

These give you a chance to take videos out of the window, and enjoy the location more than ever. They also have stop-offs sometimes in cities before the onward leg of the journey.
